Dalby Council Goes Wireless
Wednesday, December 6, 2006
With National Wireless’s technology partners and expertise, Chubb Security was able to provide real-time digital surveillance of streets and parks for the security of Dalby Town Council in South-east Queensland.
The Problem:
Dalby Town Council in South-east Queensland was looking to provide a more secure environment for locals and visitors to enjoy their city. Previous attempts to provide street camera surveillance proved inadequate and unreliable throughout the town.
Essentially, the increasing cost of the existing unreliable camera system required a complete network replacement with an increase in the number of camera locations deployed.
The Solution:
National Wireless was commissioned by Chubb Security to design, supply and install a new wireless network. Through National Wireless, Chubb Security was able to deploy the Motorola Canopy Advantage™ point-to-multi-point wireless system, and IP camera equipment with pan-tilt-zoom capabilities.
Motorola’s Canopy Advantage™ point-to-multi-point wireless technology was connected to full-motion cameras relaying live video to a command centre where security is able to remotely monitor activity and control cameras. A monitoring system was also installed at the local police station for additional control.
The town water tower was used as a central location for streaming the radio signal from the cameras to the water tower and then to backhaul these images to the council and police station.
The Result:
A full colour 25 frames per second monitoring system operating across eleven cameras mounted in strategic locations around the city now provides the council and police authorities with a reliable, flexible and expandable wireless video network.
The Canopy Advantage™ Platform
The Canopy Advantage platform is built on the field proven Canopy system and includes the high level of interference tolerance, scalability, signal reliability and ease of installation inherent in all Canopy equipment.
Building on the strengths of Canopy, the Canopy Advantage platform provides the following enhancements:
- Higher Performance: Effective latency rates from 5 to 7 milliseconds.
- Faster Speeds: Delivering data rates in excess of today's DSL and cable networks of 7 Mbps. With the new Canopy Advantage SM, the throughput doubles yet again to 14 Mbps aggregated to a single user.
- True Quality of Service: Enables operators to provide differentiated levels of service using Committed Information Rate (CIR) and Maximum Information Rate (MIR).
- Comprehensive Multi-Services Platform: An ATM frame structure uses small frame sizes which reduce retransmissions times and provides for low latency - a critical component for delivering high quality services such as Video.
